Month of May
03:37
|
|||
I was born in the month of May. Forty years ago if it was a day.
Met me a woman and we wed in June. Time to settle down, start a family too. Fireworks flashed on the fourth of July. More than a twinkle in a daddy’s eye. Change is coming soon and that’s no lie.
I lie in bed hot August nights. Lulled by the sound of frogs and sprinkler pipe. This I’ll do until late September. Daydreaming of a place I can’t quite remember. October comes with it’s harvest moon. November air hangs with sweet perfume of burning leaves and hearth fires too.
This ain’t no song of woe and strife
Change will come to every life
So I count my blessings and hold on tight
It’s a hard truth but it ain’t no lie
December brings a bitter cold. Buckets of rain, not a flake of snow.
January, February déjà vu. The days go marching two by two.
April one but nobody’s fool. I know what it is I got to do.
Can’t build me a fire if there ain’t no fuel.
This ain’t no song of woe and strife
Change will come to every life
So I count my blessings and hold on tight
It’s a hard truth but it ain’t no lie
She was born in the month of May.

You & Me
03:23
|
|||
If words escape you when you write your songs
Think about the old days and they’ll come on strong
Take a little Sunday drive out where the roads are long.
Think about the ones you left and the ones who left you back.
The train left the station, they tried to tear up the tracks.
But that smoke black steam stacked engine’s coming right back home…
Well I moved out to the wild west, I left town ‘cause there was nothing there for you and me…
They say that home is where your heart is at, or you can hang a hat but I know that it’s you and me…

I'm the Man
02:12

Baby I was wrong to let you treat me that way
Baby I was wrong to let you turn around and stay
It ain’t right but now I understand
I’m the man, man, man. I’m the man…
It ain’t right sugar how you pushed me around
It ain’t right now mama for your love I nearly drowned
It ain’t right but now I understand
I’m the man, man, man. I’m the man…

Out here in the desert everything’s a lie. Truth becomes water when the mouth is dry. Castles of sand are built upon fear. That’s how we live around here. That’s how we live around here.
What truth is pulled in a one-horse town with snake oil merchants and thieves all around. And the shifting foundations of fear and belief are calling me to my knees. I’m already on my knees.
Well it’s taken for granted that we may disappear without a sound. Like the trees of some forest falling for ages with no one around…

No Man's Land
02:46
|
|||
I have sojourned on a road to Hell. I threw a Bible down a wishing well. I heard the sounds when those angels fell.
I returned to the Potter’s field where my legs were broken, never quite healed. I looked for answers, none were revealed.
Well sunset colors they fade to gray and I wonder will the same thing happen to me some day. And I’ve watched old fires as they burn to coals and I wonder will the same thing happen…
I shy away from Holy steeples. I fear the Lord less than His people. Oh, sweet chariot won’t you swing low.
Well sunset colors they fade to gray and I wonder will the same thing happen to me some day. And I’ve watched old fires as they burn to coals and I wonder will the same thing happen…
Now I wander this no man’s land. I hear no voice, hold no hand. It ain’t exactly what I had planned.
